Following the example of his teacher Hokusai Katsushika, Hokuun published a picture book of woodblock-printed sketches. Entitled Hokuun Manga (i.e., Sketches by Hokuun) and published in 1824, it included the twenty-one pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. These pictures were intended to entertain viewers so shapes and colors were only semi-accurate.
